Projects and campaigns

Nurture Lakeland is a leading fundraiser for conservation and local community projects throughout Cumbria. We are also working on campaigns to improve water quality and reduce carbon emissions in the region.

Projects we fundraise for

Business members of Nurture Lakeland fundraise for a variety of conservation and environmental projects across Cumbria. By choosing to sponsor a particular project, businesses give their customers a chance to put something back into the local area. They raised over £120,000 in 2008/2009 and supported more than 40 projects. These included repairing footpaths in the fells, conserving red squirrels, and educating local children about sustainability. More about our projects.

Love Your Lakes campaign

Nurture Lakeland has teamed up with the Bassenthwaite Reflections programme to improve water quality in Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite Lake. The Love Your Lakes campaign involves working with local businesses, residents and visitors to reduce the amount of damaging phosphates going into the lakes. By taking simple steps we can all do our bit to protect the future of one of Lakeland's most popular and beautiful destinations. More about Love Your Lakes.

Be Car Free pilot campaign

This campaign aims to reduce visitors' car use and carbon footprints by improving the information available to them. Businesses taking part in the pilot project include hotels, B&Bs, a campsite and holiday park. They are highlighting the attractions and activities that visitors can enjoy locally, and ways to get there by boat, bike, bus or on foot. We want to encourage visitors to make more local visits and enjoy car-free days out as part of their holiday. More about the Be Car Free campaign.
