Meet the team

Director

Sue joined the organisation in Summer 2008, following a career in outdoor and adventure tourism. As a professional mountaineering instructor Sue has extensive experience of working in protected landscapes worldwide. Sue worked for many years at the National Mountaineering Centre and following this set up her own outdoor publishing company, winning the Welsh Tourist Board Award for 'New Tourism Entrepreneur'.

Office Manager & Membership Coordinator

Sarah has been with the organisation since Autumn 2003, joined after finishing a degree in Tourism, Leisure & Management at the University of Central Lancashire.
As well as looking after the smooth running of the office Sarah is responsible for keeping our hundreds of members up to date and in touch.

Grants Development Officer
Having joined Nurture Lakeland in 2009 to lead on our original Love Your Lakes campaign in the Bassenthwaite catchment, Ruth is now working with businesses and project beneficiaries to increase fundraising through visitor payback for our Access & Landscape projects such as Fix the Fells. With a BSc (Hons) degree in Outdoor & Environmental Education, Ruth is also delivering one of our Windermere Reflections projects, SORCE (Sustainable Outdoor Recreational Challenge Events). She also volunteers as a Fix the Fells lengthsmen, helping maintain our upland footpaths and is Volunteer Young Ranger Leader for the Lake District National Park’s new Young Ranger scheme

Marketing and Communications
Chris began his time with Nurture Lakeland as a Marketing and Sustainable Tourism Intern, supporting Amy with the sustainable tourism campaigns and assisting with our marketing work. He is now involved with our Development work, assisting Sue with grant applications as well as being responsible for our Marketing and Communications campaigns and continues to help deliver some of our green tourism projects. Chris has a background in Event Management, IT and Journalism.

A Green Eden Intern
After completing a 2 month placement with us, funded by Vodaphone's World of Difference program, Anna is now working on our new Green Eden project. Anna will be supporting the Project Manager (Anna Waddilove) with all aspects of the project.

Green Eden Project Development Officer
Anna has just started her role at Nurture Lakeland and will be working with tourism businesses such as hotels, guest houses, visitor attractions, arts and heritage, and with the district council, to develop a range of green tourism products, offers and low impact itineraries in the Eden Valley.

Charlotte recently joined the team (August 2011) following a varied background in Wildlife Conservation, with a degree in Zoology. Charlotte will be nurturing our 'wildlife and wilderness' and 'culture and communities' projects, supporting businesses with their fundraising and managing our small grants scheme.  charlotte widgery.pdf

 

Helen Moriarty
Sustainable Tourism Adviser

Helen is our latest recruit (September 2011) and joins us with environmental experience from Groundwork in Manchester and with a BA (Hons) in Adventure Recreation Management from St Martins College, Ambleside. She is currently studying an MSc in Responsible Tourism Management and will be sharing her knowledge with Nurture Lakeland members during events and advisory visits. Helen will also be project managing the Love Your Lakes campaign and supporting the Green Eden team with events and training.
