Friar’s Crag path Featured

Friar’s Crag is Keswick’s beautiful lakeshore path and one of the best loved, most walked upon routes in England. Derwentwater is famed as the setting for many of the novels of Beatrix Potter, including Squirrel Nutkin. As a result many fans are inspired to visit the lake. However, heavy winter rains and wear and tear from the millions of visitors who walk to the view point each year all contribute to erosion along the path.

The National Trust are working to give the footpath a more permanent and substantial surface which resists flooding and erosion. Keen to make the view point accessible to all they are upgrading the route to be suitable for wheelchair users.
