Footprint Community Arts Project Featured

The Footprint is a unique straw bale building set in the beautiful wooded surroundings of The National Trust St Catherine’s Estate near Windermere. Four seasonal community art events will be held over the course of a year at the Footprint, aiming to give local families greater confidence to explore wild places in their local area.

The events will focus on sustainability, and encourage families to explore and engage with their natural surroundings, and appreciate how our lives impact on the environment. The sessions will look at habitats, animal tracks, seasonal cycles, composting, recycling, hibernation and nesting, and hope to inspire creativity. Participants will be invited back at the end of the project to a Celebration Art Open Day in The Footprint, where all artwork and film, photography and sound recordings from the sessions will be displayed.

Staff have worked through The Kendal Family Drop-In Centre, Barnardo’s and Windermere Sure Start Children’s Centre to offer the events to local families, many of whom have not visited the Footprint before. Funding from Nurture Lakeland allows the sessions to be offered at very low cost to enable the events to be accessible to all.
