Cross Lakes Experience Featured
Nurture Lakeland supports and promotes alternative methods of transport in the Lake District. As well as reducing congestion this project hopes to reduce carbon emissions and the effect on our climate. The Cross Lakes Experience is an integrated access project that allows people to explore Windermere, Bowness, Hawkshead, Coniston and Grizedale Forest without a car. It links popular areas and visitor attractions by bus, minibus and boat, and allows people to take their bikes or do linear walks as part of their day out.
From Bowness-on-Windermere a ferry service allows visitors to cross to the western shore of Windermere. A mini coach service takes them past Hill Top, Beatrix Potter’s home, and on to the village of Hawkshead. From Hawkshead there is a connection to Coniston Water where people can cruise on the lake, visit Brantwood, or travel to Grizedale Forest for Go Ape and mountain bike trails.
The service runs daily from 4 April to 31 October 2010. For prices and travel ideas see the Cross Lakes Experience leaflet and timetable - these can be found on the website, just click on the link below.
Tickets are available from Windermere Lake Cruises ticket office at Bowness, on board Coniston Launch or from the Mountain Goat bus driver.
