10yrs @ Nurture Lakeland - Sarah Robertson
Fresh out of university it was actually my mum that spotted the job advert for a 6 month placement, I imagine she wanted me out of her hair! Even at my interview I could tell it was going to be a great place to work, the team was so friendly and passionate about this amazing area that we live in. I started my journey as office assistant and the rest, as they say, is history!
Back at the beginning of my time here we were a three man band in a dinky office in the Heart of the Lakes building in Ambleside. Along with Kirstie, Simon and a fab base of members I soon knew that I would really relish the role, and I did...
Casting my mind back there have been plenty of highlights, members' Christmas lunches are always great but one in particular stands out... it was held on one of the Ullswater Steamers, the weather was horrendous, a number of members couldn't reach Ullswater due to flooding and for those of us who could we couldn't even set sail due to the wind and rain! Certainly one we won't forget in a hurry!
In other boating memories we even got the Royal seal of approval when the Duke of Gloucester joined us for a cruise on Coniston Water to celebrate our fantastic fundraisers; luckily the sun was shining that day!
There have been a lot of changes during my decade here and it has been really encouraging to see the organisation go from strength to strength, and with such a strong team and fantastic members you can see why. I have learnt so much from Nurture Lakeland and my colleagues and have had so many great experiences. There really are too many people to name and thank but I am sure you know who you are!
Here's to the next 10 years!
