Alston Moor Business Association Featured

Did you realise how much the Alston Moor Business Association (AMBA) does around Alston Moor?

For example, did you know that AMBA have been responsible for organizing and subsidising the Christmas trees and hanging baskets, holding BBQs, the Wine Train and social networking events?
More recently, AMBA complained to The Highways Agency Dept, and then publicly to the local press and radio, about the way that repair to the pavements on Front St, Alston was being managed. Our intervention succeeded in bringing the agencies to account and ultimately speeded up the completion of the works.

Well, AMBA can do much more, but we need you! There are dozens of businesses on Alston Moor, from pubs to coal yards, shops to plasterers, and we all can help each other economically thrive, and make Alston Moor look beautiful. If our town and villages look better, they are perceived as being more prosperous, and this is beneficial for all of us who live here.

Whether you are a self-employed hairdresser, farmer or builder, please join our association. The more people who join us, the more we can do to improve Alston Moor!

We have a set of aims and commitments to bring the best out of our community for all our shops, services and individuals. These include:

- link up and share information with other organisations, such as Alston Moor Partnership, Sustainable Alston Moor, etc…

- ‘Alston Moor in Bloom’ – so far, we’ve provided hanging baskets and Christmas trees. Now, we have a great opportunity to place old reconditioned coal-railway carts and other items, historically appropriate for our community, to use as planters around Alston Moor. Please get in touch if you can help us with any of this!

a new website with up to date and relevant business information on grants available to us including a forum for all your comments and ideas

- outside speakers to be brought in from other towns to talk about their successes, and how they went about getting money/ making things happen

- to encourage new business into the area. With broadband, businesses are now enabled to work remotely, meaning Alston Moor is as good a place to base your business as a major city!

- develop links with local schools and have Annual Business Awards and mentorship programmes

- cheer-up empty retail properties with window displays and art exhibits
