The location is ideal for anyone wanting either a relaxing or outdoor holiday. Derwentwater is ideal for watersports, Whinlatter Forest Park offers orienteering courses and Keswick has mountain bikes for hire. Also, there are many local walking routes and the hostel lies on the long-distance Coast-to-Coast path and the Cumbria Way.

There is ample parking for cars and mini-buses but no access for coaches, the nearest drop off 400 metres away. The hostel has an NAS level 3 accessibility award and Wifi access is available.
