Grants awarded for conservation projects
Twice a year Nurture Lakeland is pleased to be able to give away some of its money to several very deserving conservation projects in
This summer grants have been awarded to Wendy’s Wood in Glenridding, Orton Community Woodland, SusKes, Kirkby Stephen Riverside Walk and Appleby Riverside Walk.
We were very pleased to have so many fantastic projects to consider in this round of applications. The variety of conservation projects throughout the county is really encouraging!
Small grants of up to £1000 each are available to conservation and environmental projects from around the county. To be eligible for these grants, the projects must demonstrate that they are making a practical difference and strongly involving the local community in caring for the environment.
Wendy’s Wood and Orton Community Woodland are both inspirational examples of how local people can get together to make a real difference not only to their own environment locally but also to the protection of our environment at large. Here the grants will be used for creating footpaths, winter planting and encouraging wildlife to the sites.
At SusKes the money will be used to create a native Hawthorn hedge around a collection of community allotments and at Appleby and Kirkby Stephen the money will be used to carry out essential repairs on two very popular riverside walks.
In addition to this we have also taken on two new projects for business sponsorship, the Red Kite Project at Grizedale and the White Coppice Cycleway near Keswick.
