We are 3 full time and 3 part time members of staff based in the village of Staveley in the heart of the Lake District. We're also delighted to have fantastic volunteers who work with us to help keep the Lake District and Cumbria lovely.

Sustainable 
Tourism Campaigns

Karen joined in 2014. She has a background in nature conservation and the management of people, partnrships, projects and campaigns. She's responsible for leading Nurture Lakeland - ensuring it increases fundraising, supports conservation and further develops as a centre of excellence on responsible tourism. She ensures the team has the support they need to work effectively.

Sarah joined in 2003 after finishing a degree in Tourism, Leisure & Management. Sarah is responsible for finance and the smooth running of the office, as well as keeping our member businesses up to date.

Sophie joined us in 2010, putting a teaching background and a Masters in Environmental Governance to good use producing campaign materials and organising business training events. Sophie manages our Sustainable Travel work and provides consultancy support for Nurture Tourism, particularly focusing on ecosystem services and fundraising.

Sarah joined us in 2013 and is working on our sustainable travel projects in the Lake District and the Love Your Lakes campaign. Sarah previously volunteered with Ruth on the Visitor Giving programme after completing a PhD in Environmental Science at Lancaster University.

Penny provides a vital role in supporting our fundraising efforts by liasing with our businesses.  Having previously worked in a variety of organisations including outdoor, travel and management training companies. Currently working on the Visitor Giving project, producing and distributing fundraising materials.

Rachel joined us in 2014 to work on the Low Carbon Cottages project after completing a PhD in Environmental Science. The Low Carbon Cottages project aims to deliver a guidance tool kit for owners looking to reduce carbon emissions and running costs of traditionally built holiday cottages, whilst being sensitive to the aesthetic and cultural value of these buildings. Look out for further information on the blog and dissemination events in early 2015.

Julia joined us in 2014. She has a BSc in International Development and has always wanted a career that works with businesses to ensure environmental protection. She's worked as a Corporate Social Responsibility intern for an energy company in Singapore and as a Community Resilience intern for Great Yarmouth Borough Council. Most recently she's finished a an EU placement working for Asociatia B-Right Media; helping to raise environmental awareness through non-formal educational activities in Botosani, Romania.
